Our Approach to Privacy

Reef & Rod respects your privacy. This policy explains what information may be collected when you visit reefandrod.com, why it is collected, and the choices available to you. The site is operated by Pete Collins. You can read the site without creating an account or providing your name, address, or payment details. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.

Analytics Information

We use Google Analytics 4, with measurement ID , to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics may collect technical and usage information such as the pages viewed, approximate visit duration, referral source, general geographic area, browser type, device type, and interactions with site features.

IP anonymization is enabled in our Google Analytics configuration. This means IP addresses are anonymized before analytics information is made available to us. We use these aggregated reports to identify useful fishing guides, improve navigation, fix technical problems, and understand general site traffic. We do not use analytics reports to identify individual visitors.

We also use GoatCounter at reefandrod.goatcounter.com. GoatCounter is a privacy-focused analytics service that provides aggregate page-view statistics without using cookies to track visitors across websites. It may process limited technical information needed to count visits and prevent abuse. Reef & Rod does not use GoatCounter to build personal profiles.

Cookies and Your Choices

Google Analytics may place first-party cookies, including cookies beginning with _ga, in your browser. These cookies help distinguish one visit from another and create aggregated traffic statistics. They are not used by Reef & Rod to obtain your name or direct contact details.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. You may also use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or privacy controls provided by your browser. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you from reading any Reef & Rod guide, although it may make our visitor statistics less accurate. Where applicable law requires consent before non-essential cookies are used, we will request that consent.

Viator Affiliate Disclosure

Reef & Rod participates in the Viator affiliate program under partner ID P00299531 and merchant campaign ID 42383. Some pages contain affiliate links to tours or fishing charters offered through Viator. If you follow one of those links and complete a booking, Reef & Rod may receive a commission. The price you pay is not increased because of that commission.

When you follow an affiliate link, you leave reefandrod.com and enter a third-party website. Viator may collect information, use cookies, and process booking or payment details under its own privacy policy and terms. Reef & Rod does not receive your payment card number or control how Viator processes information submitted on its website.

Email and Personal Information

If you contact Pete by email, we receive your email address and any information you choose to include in your message. That information is used only to read and respond to your enquiry, keep necessary correspondence, and resolve any related issue. Please do not send sensitive personal or financial information by email.

We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was sent, to meet legal obligations, or to protect the security and integrity of the site. We use reasonable safeguards, but no method of transmitting or storing information online can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask whether we hold personal information about you and to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or a portable copy. You may also be able to object to certain processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on consent, or complain to your local data protection authority.

Most analytics information available to Reef & Rod is aggregated or anonymized, so we may not be able to connect an analytics record to a particular visitor. We will still consider valid requests and explain what action we can take. We may ask for enough information to verify your identity before acting on a request.
