Email is the fastest way to reach me: pete@reefandrod.com. I read every message personally, but I am usually out on the water running charters, so replies can take 2 to 3 days. If your trip is within the next week and you need a fast answer, mention your travel dates in the subject line.

What to Ask

The questions I get most often fall into a few categories, and I am happy to answer all of them. Charter type confusion is the big one. People book a reef charter expecting estuary fishing, or book a barramundi trip during the November to January closed season without realising. Tell me what kind of fishing you imagine doing (deep water, calm creeks, freshwater impoundment) and I will point you toward the right trip.

Questions about specific boats and operators are also welcome. I cannot name every charter in Cairns, but I have been on most of the well-known ones and I have opinions about which captains are reliable, which boats are overbooked in peak season, and which marketing photos are honest. Send me the name of a charter and I will tell you what I know.

Seasonal fishing questions are worth asking before you book. Trout and red emperor peak in winter (June to September). Spanish mackerel show up from August to November. Barramundi season is shut November to January in most freshwater systems. Estuary fishing is good year-round but tides matter more than months. If you tell me when you are travelling, I can tell you what will actually be biting.

What I Cannot Help With

Booking and payment goes through the charter operators and Viator. I do not take bookings directly and I cannot hold a spot on a boat for you. If a charter is full, the booking platform will tell you before I can. For cancellations, refunds, or date changes, contact the operator you booked with first. Their contact details are in your booking confirmation email.

I also cannot give advice about fishing licences, marine park fees, or border restrictions. Those rules come from the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and change regularly. Check the Queensland Government website for the current version before you travel.
